0.8: All features completed and usable. Time for testing.
0.9: Basic testing completed. Time for coming up with a good, extensible protocol for communication.
1.0: Protocol determined, testing completed.
1.1: Security, privacy, and performance enhancements.
1.5: Chat (Jabber-based), Video, Module Architecture, Searching, Administration enhancements.
2.0: AJAX, Canvas, SVG. Offload a lot of the work to the client. Make things look really cool, and feel more like a native application.
3.0: Connect using plugs surgically inserted into the backs of our necks at birth.
4.0 Kung Fu and Scarlett modules.


Especially in social software, you need a hefty crowd of evangelists. They can't evangelize if they can't install. Having appleseed do 2 cool things is often enough for people like me to install and put them on the server. But if it isn't clear how to do, I'm much more likely to get distracted and wander away.
